Beyond the city limits of Kampala, The Harbor welcomes LGBTQ+ youth, offering them spaces of comfort and protection.

Like the diverse group it serves, it is not a singular structure but a community of varied shelters, each offering a unique program and perspective. Their individual forms speak to the inherent tensions between ideas of comfort, visibility, and security for Ugandan LGBTQ+. Built from locally sourced earth in layered tones and textures, the walls convey a sense of grounding, strength, and protection. Yet the buildings remain open to one another—facing inward onto a shared courtyard—fostering openness, exchange, and collective life.
